19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr. fatally shot his parents Friday morning on campus shortly after they picked him up from a hospital, where police had sent him due to behaving erratically, campus police Chief Bill Yeagley said Saturday.

Thursday night and once shortly after midnight the police encountered James “not really making a lot of sense,“said Yeagley, who said they suspected his behavior involved drugs.
The student’s parents drove down from the Chicago area to the Mount Pleasant campus early Friday after police called his mother to tell her about her son. Davis Jr. went to a hospital and was released Friday morning when his parents took him back to Central Michigan to pack his things to head back home, the police chief said.
Davis shot his parents on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall around 8:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

“We are not at all done with this investigation,” Yeagley said at a news conference Saturday morning.

It was revealed by the police that the gun used by Davis Jr.used to kill his parents was registered to his father.

“What we know for sure is that the gun was registered to his father, and that we saw … he came from the parking lot into our residence hall with the gun, and the father was upstairs at that time,” Yeagley said.
