Marvel and Walt Disney’s Black Panther has earned a record setting $192 million Fri-Sun and likely $218m Fri-Mon holiday opening.
The Marvel superhero film blew past expectations, with $192 million in ticket sales over the weekend — making it the fifth-biggest opening weekend of all time. “Black Panther” has crushed the record for the largest Presidents Day weekend, blowing past “Deadpool’s” 2016 mark of $152 million.
The film, which cost around $200 million to make, is the most big-budget, largely black ensemble film in years and among the few to be centered on a black superhero.
Comscore’s PostTrak survey of the audience showed exceptional numbers with 77% rating “Black Panther” as “excellent” and another 18% as “very good.”
