On April 19, John Hubert Highnote, 58, walked into a Chinese restaurant where two cops, Sgt. Noel Ramirez, 29, and Deputy Taylor Lindsey, 25, were having a meal and opened fire — killing the men in uniform.
After the shooter walked into the restaurant to kill the officers he then killed himself in what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said in a press release Friday.
Initially authorities said the gunshots were fired through the glass of the restaurant, but investigation later revealed gunshots were fired inside the eatery by Highnote.
“It appears he just walked up and shot them, then went to his car and shot himself. It’s inexplicable,” said State Attorney Bill Cervon, according to News 4 Jax. “People will want to know why, and we may never have an answer for them,” he added.
A construction worker who witnessed the shooting said that Highnote came from the restaurant “calm as can be,” WFLA reported.
Sgt. Ramirez was with the law enforcement for 7 years and leaves behind a wife and two young children.
Deputy Lindsey served more than three years and leaves behind a girlfriend.
