Burger King is going meatless! The Whopper from BK has been a staple at the fast-food restaurant for 62 years now and they have done many things over the years to make the iconic burger more exciting, like turning the buns black. Now the Whopper is taking on the meat-free trend, the first meatless burger to hit the menu — and it’s full on meatless, as in, NO beef!
Burger King released the news on Monday, April 1st, but thankfully it’s not an April fools joke. The food chain teamed up with California-based Impossible Foods to make the new meatless Whopper. The burger will be made just like the regular Whopper, except with the meatless patty.
Chris Finazzo, president of Burger King North America, told CNN the company hopes to “give somebody who wants to eat a burger every day, but doesn’t necessarily want to eat beef everyday, permission to come into the restaurants more frequently.”
The new burger is currently available at 59 Burger King locations in St. Louis as a test run that could possibly turn into a nationwide addition, depending on how sales are at the current locations. The new plant-based Whopper will only cost a dollar more than the original burger. As a vegan myself that loves the Impossible burger, this excited me!
