Doug Bradley,49, a finance director of Imperial Beach in Southern California, was shot to death in the resort city of Ixtapa on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, on Thursday.
He was on Christmas vacation and would have turned 50 the very next day.
Witnesses told local media that the victim was being chased by his attackers when he was shot by a nine-millimeter gun at about 4:00am. However, local police didn’t receive a report of the incident until 8:00am, after Douglas’ body had lain in a parking lot for four hours, Mexico News Daily reported.
The city of Imperial Beach in San Diego County announced Bradley’s death on Friday.
“Doug Bradley was loved by all that knew him,” said Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina. “He was always positive, loved to surf, and had helped to turn around the City of Imperial Beach’s financial management as well as restructure city administration to make it more efficient and resident-friendly.”
Bradley was unmarried and had no children, and lived in in Playas de Tijuana, San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area has had a massive increase in violence due to disputes between rival criminal organizations. Security officials say there have been 112 homicides presumably related to organized crime so far this year.
