“Something happened that had nothing to do with putting bad guys in jail. Last week, FCPS served a high-risk warrant at a hotel, and a 10-year-old boy was contacted in one of the involved rooms. He had been left alone by his parent, who is a suspect in the case. The living conditions in the room were horrible with mice feces and dirty clothes scattered everywhere. The boy was going to be placed with his grandparents, and during a search for clean clothes, officers learned that he didn’t have anything salveagable. Detective Brian immediately went out to personally purchase clothes and sneakers for the boy so he’d have something clean and comfortable to call his own.
The next day, officers learned the boy had a 13-year-old sister who was also living in the hotel room. Officer Derrek took donations from the patrol shifts working that day, and Santa Cops of Larimer County donated Walmart gift cards and toys. The two kids and their grandmother were picked up by Officer Derrek, Detective Brian, and two other detectives for a surprise shopping trip. Both kids got new school clothes and school supplies, and officers stocked grandma’s fridge. Sgt. Bob provided two backpacks, loaded with school supplies, from the Laramie River Valley Rendezvous. An officer’s wife, who owns a local salon, arranged to have both kids come in for free haircuts and styles so they’ll be ready for the new school year.
These kids were awesome – good kids growing up in a horrible situation. They were super excited and so appreciative, and both grandparents got emotional about the efforts made to help their family. Officer Derrek put it best…’we want to show these kids a different side of what we do and who we are.’ Our combined shifts and detectives donated over $500 to make life just a little easier for these two young people.”

Lamitta El-Roz’s parents went to sleep last Friday night with a huge worry — how to pay for the $140,000 surgery that could help their six-year-old daughter take her first steps.
When Canadian doctors didn’t consider Lamitta a good candidate for surgery, the family turned to the United States.
The Stittsville girl was born with spastic cerebral palsy, a condition that prevents her from walking, crawling or rolling over on her own due to damaged nerves in her lower spine. She is travelling to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri at the end of this month for selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery.
Now, that worry that kept them up at night is gone. A donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, gave the family $60,000 to help pay the bills.

Working mom and her son donate gift bags to help those in need. La-Teisha Daniel-Baines fills bins and baskets full of products she got for cheap thanks to coupons. The care items are then donated to those in need. La-Teisha Daniel-Baines doesn’t come from riches, nor does she live a life of luxury. She works six days a week but makes time to give back. Her contributions to others might seem insignificant to some, but to the recipients, the gift bag full of soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other care items is huge. “I know it is hard. I’ve been there, and I just want to make sure people are all right,” Daniel-Baines said. “I don’t have a whole bunch of money now. I just do what I can with my coupons to take care of my house and help others. That is all I want to do.”

After getting in a car crash, an injured Palestinian woman arrived in a Jerusalem hospital with her 9-month-old baby, Yamen. Because his mother was injured, she was unable to breastfeed him. Yamen’s aunts watched helplessly as the baby cried for hours, refusing to take a bottle. Then an Israeli nurse named Ola Ostrowski-Zak stepped in. Ostrowski-Zak is the mother of an 18-month-old boy, and when she saw Yamen crying, she began to breastfeed him. Once the child was fed and soothed, Yamen’s aunts reportedly hugged the nurse and said they didn’t think any other Jewish woman would have offered to feed a Palestinian baby. “I was emotional about this sad assumption,” Ostrowski-Zak told the Today show. “I know any Jewish mother would have done the same.”
