Check your cabinets! Henry Avocado Corp is voluntarily recalling California grown while avocados that are sold in bulk because of potential contamination, announced the company in a news release on Saturday. The company released the recall after positive test results came back for Listeria Monocytogenes on the samples that were taken during a government inspection at the San-Diego based facility.
“We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every action possible to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados,” President of Henry Avocados, Phil Henry said.
Avocados that were imported from Mexico are not subject to recall and will continue to be sold and safe to be consumed. Consumers can identify the recalled avocados by the “Bravocado” sticker. The avocados are labeled organic and have California on the sticker.
Listeria Monocytogenes is the species of pathogenic bacteria that causes the infection listeriosis. It can cause serious illness that can sometimes be fatal, especially in young children and elderly people. There have been no reported illnesses at this time, according to the company.
