The ongoing coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic has had a major negative impact on the sporting calendar of the world. The Football Association, English Premier League, FA Women’s Super League and English Football League have all paused action for now.
The English cricket team had to cut short their Sri Lanka tour, while the NBA suspended its ongoing season after a Utah Jazz player was diagnosed with coronavirus. The first golf major of the year, the Masters has also been postponed, after Players Championship 2020 was recently cancelled midway. In another part of the world, the London Marathon will now happen in the later part of the year, if feasible. Here’s a quick account of some of the top sports events that have been cancelled because of coronavirus.
Football
– Scottish Football suspended with immediate effect
– English Premier league suspended till April 4
– EFL suspended till April 3
– Europa League and Champions League fixtures also stand postponed, as announced by the UEFA. The quarter-final draws of both the competitions stand cancelled as of now.
– The two England friendly matches scheduled for late March at Wembley, FA Women’s Championship and Women’s Super League have been postponed
– The international football matches – Wales vs Austria and Wales vs United States in late March have been called off as well
– MLS has announced suspension of all football matches for a period of 30 days, starting immediately
– All domestic sports activities in Italy, including Serie A football matches have been suspended till April 3.
– French Ligue 2 and Ligue 1 have been suspended until further notice
– All Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches in Germany have also been called off until April
– South American World Cup qualifiers have been postponed
– Italy vs Germany international friendly scheduled for late March has been postponed
Basketball
– The ongoing NBA season has been called off until further notice, after Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz centre player tested positive for Covid-19.
Cricket
– England vs Sri Lanka test series has been postponed and English players have returned home.
– Indian Premier League is now postponed from March 29 to April 15.
– Australia will no longer tour New Zealand
– The last two ODIs between South Africa and India have been called off
– April test matches and ODIs involving Bangladesh and Pakistan have been postponed

Golf
– Aramco Saudi Ladies International has also been postponed and is likely to be rescheduled for later this year
