While spring might not have been going exactly as we planned and hoped it would, it has still brought us more than we thought at first. Because the entire world seems to be in lockdown and everyone’s social lives have been put on hold, we have had time to focus on ourselves, our mental health, our homes, and of course, our beauty routine. This is the perfect time to try out something new and clean up your beauty routine, so buckle up and dive into the sea of great tips we’ve prepared for you.

Get new sunscreen
It should go without saying, but we’ll say it again nonetheless – you should wear sunscreen every day. It doesn’t matter if you’re leaving the house for a couple of minutes or you’re spending a day at the beach – the sun can do a lot of damage if you don’t protect yourself. Because so many of us have been locked at home and not able to spend time outside, this is the perfect time to get new sun protection products and toss the old ones. If you’re wearing makeup, you can always opt to buy foundation or primer that already has SPF so you don’t have to use more products, but otherwise, a small bottle of sunscreen in your purse and another one in the bathroom should do the trick.
Clean your makeup brushes
Makeup brushes are a necessity, yet how often do you clean them up? We’re not talking about brushing them off with a makeup removal wet wipe; we’re talking about full-blown cleaning session that will leave your brushes looking brand new. Using grimy face brushes and makeup sponges are counterproductive – it just makes you cover your face with bacteria, dead cells, and oils. Rubbing your brushes against a dry washcloth is very effective, but you should wash them with warm water and gentle facial soap every few days. By keeping your brushes clean, you can avoid some seriously nasty infections that easily come from dirty brushes: for example, pink eye or even staph.
Switch to natural products
If you have sensitive skin, you probably noticed that you have to use more and more products to keep it clean and blemish-free. One of the reasons for this is that a lot of products have artificial ingredients that can cover up skin imperfections, but that doesn’t resolve any of the problems that lead to these imperfections in the first place. If you start using natural cosmetics daily, you will notice a significant improvement in your skin tone very quickly. Natural cosmetic products might not give you immediate results, but the effects will definitely last much longer; your skin will be much healthier, and your complexion beautiful.
Clean your hairbrush
Every couple of months, you should give your hairbrush a makeover. Your scalp is never perfectly clean, and natural oils and residue can get stuck on your hairbrush bristles. In turn, when you’re combing your clean hair, you actually weigh it down with old product residue and oils. To make sure your hairbrush is clean and your hair protected, remove loose strands of hair after every use. You can do this with your fingers or by running another hairbrush through the bristles. To get rid of oils and product residue from the surface of the brush, soak it up in warm water with apple cider vinegar and leave it for several minutes. Let it dry overnight, and the next morning it will be as good as new.
Serious exfoliants
Is there a better time to “shed your old skin” than springtime when you’re in quarantine? This is a great chance to rejuvenate your skin by trying out different exfoliants and exfoliating methods. Choose a day in a week when you will take time to exfoliate the skin of your face and body thoroughly. Now, keep in mind that the skin on your face is much gentler than that of your body, so it might be a good idea to use two different exfoliants. You can easily make your own mixture using only ground coffee and granulated sugar (or just salt), but if you’re not into experiments, you can always buy one in a store (or order online).
While there are people who can’t imagine experimenting with their beauty routine, trying out new things and products doesn’t have to be bad. If you hesitate because you have sensitive skin or allergies, do a bit of research to find products with safe ingredients, or simply start trying out new hair products or lipsticks. By the time this quarantine ends, we are all going to have a few nice tricks up our sleeves because we’ve had enough time to learn a thing or two at home.
