  • Vitamins A and C. Applesauce contain these two types of vitamins. Vitamin A is responsible for your dog’s healthy skin and coat, and it also improves your dog’s immune system. Vitamin C helps to strengthen and develop your dog’s bones and muscles.

  • Healthy Poop. By including applesauce in your dog’s diet, you are improving their digestion. Apples contain fiber, which slows the rate at which the bloodstream absorbs sugar. While fiber does not strengthen your dog, it helps prevent diarrhea, constipation, and diabetes mellitus.

  • Antioxidants. Applesauce introduces antioxidants in your dog’s system, which help with gastrointestinal health. Scientists suggest that the apple’s antioxidant power is similar to more than 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C. Most of the antioxidants come from flavonoids. Antioxidants help to improve your dog’s eyesight, bone development, and prevent chronic diseases.

  • Safety. If you want to feed apples to your dog, give them applesauce. Regular apples can choke your pup and cause harmful effects to the throat. Unlike applesauce, regular apples also contain seeds, stems, and leaves that your dog cannot filter out in small amounts. If you are feeding applesauce to your puppy for the first time, feed them in tiny amounts at first. A teaspoon per day is enough for you to check for signs of stomach trouble. If they can handle it, begin by feeding them occasionally. For instance, you can feed your dog applesauce as a treat for good behavior.

  • Puppies. If you want to introduce applesauce to your puppy, only do so after he is fully weaned into solid food. Fruits and vegetables are not ideal for nursing puppies. Once weaned, applesauce is the best way to feed apples to your pups because he will not have to face the risk of choking.

  • Homemade Treats. Besides feeding applesauce directly to your dog, you can also include it in homemade treats such as baked doggie treats and cookies. You can also create applesauce pupsicles by freezing the applesauce in an ice cube tray. Fresh Applesauce is also easy to make. Peel and boil organic apples for about 20 minutes. Strain and smash the pieces to create fresh applesauce for your dog.
  • Precaution. When feeding your dog with applesauce, you must remember some things to maintain their health and safety. You should avoid feeding your dog with applesauce that contains preservatives, coloring, and pesticides. Such chemicals are harmful to your dog. Always ensure that the applesauce is organic and unsweetened.

While your dog requires proteins and fat for their growth, occasional fruit snacks can add extra vitamins and fiber to their diet. Let your dog feel appreciated by enjoying the crunchy texture of apples.
