Officer Jody Thompson was pulling into a parking lot 2 years ago at the Poteau Police Department in Oklahoma.
Officer Jody re-calls overhearing a dispatch about physical child abuse call.
He immediately pursued it and found a 8 year old boy named John bounded by his wrists and shivering uncontrollably.
John found by Officer Thompson covered in bruises and lacerations all over his body. Thompson found John in trash can full of cold water.
“He did not have a spot on his body that didn’t have a bruise or abrasion,” Thompson said. “It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”
John was immediately taken to the hospital where he and Thompson remained as he recovered.
The next day Thompson contacted the Oklahoma Department Of Human Services. Jody Thompson decided he’s the primary care taker for John now.
Thompson already has 2 sons, He said he didn’t tell his family immediately.
Thompson stated he knew they would understand he did the right thing.
Just 7 Months later Thompson welcomed home a new baby girl. Coincidentally his new daughter has the same mother as John.
CBS news reports the biological mother was in jail when he gained custody of the baby.
“Jody’s actions as well as his families are second to none. The example of love and compassion he has shown to this young man and his sister is an example everyone should follow,”
Said Poteau Police Chief Stephen Fruen.
