5 People have been confirmed to be dead & several others have been reported to be missing. The authorities are fearful for many people lives as there appears to not be any life on the island.
“Anyone who could have been taken from the island alive was rescued at the time of the evacuation,” said the New Zealand police.
The police of New Zealand also believe there aren’t any survivors among the multiple people that are missing, the eruption erupted around 2:11 PM local time in New Zealand.
This released a very thick cloud of ash roughly 12,000 feet in the air, nearly 18 people suffered a serious injury and were rescued.
A shelter was placed in 2016 out of hopes that people would have somewhere to go to in case of an eruption.
The island is a attraction primary for tourist, the island became a private scenic reserve in 1953, since then over 10,000 people visit the volcano each year on daily tours.
The police are using a naval ship to approach the area, the island is being observed, hopefully for more people that may have survived.
