Polygamist Lyle Jeffs, accused for fraud was caught by the FBI Wednesday after nearly a year on the run.
Leader of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was accused of food stamp fraud and money laundering. Jeffs was located in South Dakota and arrested on Wednesday night, the FBI says. Officials said he slipped out of his GPS ankle monitor and fled from a Salt Lake City house where he was on supervised home release.
Jeffs is the brother of infamous polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, who was convicted of child sexual assault in 2011 for his “marriages” to a 12-year-old and 15-year-old. Warren Jeffs is serving a life sentence in prison.
The Polygamous church has a few thousand members. Lyle Jeffs reportedly has nine wives with over 60 kids, his brother Warren Jeffs had dozens of wives.
